The WBC has set Alexander Povetkin's suspension at one year

MOSCOW - The Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin saw his suspension for doping originally planned for an indefinite period be set at one year by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Povetkin, who is still fined US $ 250,000, had two of his fights canceled last year due to positive anti-doping tests, including a world title fight against WBC champion Deontay Wilder.

The WBC reduced its penalty to one year from its second test failed ostarine in December 2016, which means that Povetkin will be able to fight as early as next month.

However, Povetkin will face another year of probation and will undergo further testing.

He faces Christian Hammer in a World Boxing Organization bout next month, a duel that is not subject to WBC sanction.
